General questions
What is the difference between frames and tiers?
A locker frame consists of the vertical parts of the locker body. Frames are counted horizontally. A locker tier is the number of doors on each individual frame, counting vertically.
For example: One frame with three doors from top to bottom is called a Three Tier locker. Eight frames of Three Tier lockers would be 24 locker doors (8x3=24). If you wanted larger locker openings, you could get Double Tier lockers - two doors from top to bottom. Now you'd need 12 frames to achieve the same 24 openings (12x2=24)
How do I count frames and tiers?
The easiest way to count frames and tiers is to work backwards from a finished locker installation. Imagine a checkerboard pattern as representing a finished wall of lockers. Each square is one locker door opening. The wall lays out as "so many" squares high by "so many" squares wide. The number of squares from left to right is the number of frames. The number of squares from top to bottom is the number of tiers. Tiers x frames = the total number of locker door openings you need.
Many of the pictures of lockers throughout our site are of 3 frames.
Are frames and tiers counted the same for steel and plastic lockers?
Yes, frames and tiers are standard locker terminology, regardless of the material the lockers are made of.
Why don't you indicate "3-wide" and "1-wide" sections like on other locker web sites?
We've found that when all is said and done, people don't really care how many "3-wide" or "1-wide" sections they have, so long as they end up with the final number of locker door openings they set out to buy. We price all quote requests based on 3-wide sections, with one or two 1-wide sections making up the difference when the total number of frames requested isn't evenly divisible by 3. "3-wide" and "1-wide" is our concern, giving you one less thing to worry about when ordering your lockers.
Why don't you have fixed pricing like on other locker web sites?
The discounts we get from the locker companies we deal with work on a "sliding scale" - the larger the order, the greater the discount. We use that extra discount power to give you the best possible price. Since the total value of any given locker configuration can vary depending on size, quantity and options, we can offer you our best possible price by calculating each project individually. We offer personalized service on the phone during normal business hours, Eastern time, or we can send an email or fax quote, per your time frame selection.
Why would I use plastic lockers instead of steel lockers?
Plastic lockers are most commonly used in areas where water or moisture is a concern, like swimming pools, showers, washrooms, or an area that is prone to flooding. They're also used when a very clean, streamlined look is desired. Plastic lockers come with a 20 year guarantee against rust.
I am trying to match an architect specification. Can you help?
Yes. We often work with architects and contractors. Use the
Contact us section to speak to a representative about your locker requirements.
Can you help me create a layout for my locker room?
Yes. Use the
Contact us section to fax or email us a drawing of your room. Indicate overall measurements, sizes and locations of doors and windows, including how far along the wall they're located, and any other wall or structural obstructions like light switches, electrical outlets, wall mounted lighting or building columns. The more detailed and exact the drawing and measurements are, the easier and faster it will be for us to create the ideal layout for your room.

What sizes of lockers are available?
Lockers come in many different sizes. All width and depth measurements are based on 3" increments - 12", 15" 18", 21". 12" is the most common width, while 15" and 18" are common depth choices. 18" is deep enough to hang a standard coat hanger in the locker, if that's a concern for you. Locker heights are 60" (5 feet) and 72" (6 feet) tall, plus 6" legs. We don't count the legs as part of the locker height as they don't add to the usable interior volume of the locker opening.
Increase locker size by depth before increasing by width. The cost difference between a 12", 15" and 18" deep locker is minimal. The cost difference between a 12", 15" and 18" wide locker is substantial. Increasing by depth also gets you more usable locker volume without using more wall space.
We've listed the most commonly ordered size combinations on our site, but there are many other sizes we can order. If you don't see the size you want, choose the one that's closest to it, then put a note in the "Comment" box after you click on "Quote It" to let us know the size you want. We'll price your quote request based on that size.
What colors are available?
Stock steel lockers are available in Gray and Almond. Other colors are available for an additional charge, but delivery time is longer. Plastic lockers are available in 11 different colors. Click on the "color choices" link on any of the plastic locker pages to see the choices.
What options are available?
The most popular options are:
- Sloped tops - Easier to reach for cleaning, prevent debris from collecting on top of lockers.
- Closed base kits - Neater appearance than open legs, prevents debris from collecting under lockers.
- Number plates - Simple identification for large locker installations.
- Locks - Built-in combination, built-in key operated or padlock.
We also offer filler panels, finished end panels, closed corners and trim accessories for professional installations. After you've received your initial quote, feel free to call us regarding these options.
Do you sell locker benches? I don't see them listed on your site.
Yes. Benches are available in lengths from 36" (3 feet) to 144" (12 feet) in 12" (1 foot) increments. Standard benches have wood tops and permanent mount pedestals that must be attached to the floor of your locker area. Movable benches have free-standing pedestals and can be rearranged at will. Certain sizes are also available with either plastic or aluminum bench tops.
If you would like benches included on your Quote Request, put a note in the "Comments" box. Be sure to indicate length, quantity, material (wood, plastic or aluminum) and standard or movable pedestals.
Custom lockers & options
What is a custom manufactured locker?
A custom manufactured locker is any locker designed to meet a specific requirement or construction code.
What sizes are available?
Custom locker sizes are similar to stock locker sizes, but are available in many more size combinations. Working in 3" increments, lockers start at 9" wide by 12" deep and go up to 24" wide by 24" deep. 60" (5 feet) or 72" (6 feet) are the most common height choices, but certain width/depth/tier combinations are available in shorter heights as well.
What colors are available?
Lockers can be ordered in over 15 different colors. For installations where the lockers will be recessed in a wall, only the locker doors can be your choice of color, with the bodies coming in the stock Almond color, saving you money on painting charges.
What options are available?
In addition to the four stock locker options, custom lockers can be manufactured with other options.
- Recessed handles - Clean, flat appearance. All locks are contained within the recess.
- Single point latches - No moving parts. Maintenance free and reduces ambient noise in busy locker rooms.
- Expanded metal doors & sides - Increased ventilation for long term storage of clothing and athletic gear.
- Fully welded construction - Best for the heaviest duty locker installations.
Lockers can also be configured to meet ADA requirements for handicapped and special needs users.
Filler panels, finished end panels, corner panels & connectors and recessed trim are also available for professional looking installations.
Assembly & Installation
Do I have to assemble the lockers?
Steel lockers can be shipped assembled or unassembled. Ordering steel lockers pre-assembled saves you the time and effort of assembling them yourself, however there is an additional charge and your shipping costs will be marginally higher. If you've built any kind of pre-fabricated wood furniture (shelf unit, TV stand, entertainment center, computer desk, etc.) then you can build steel lockers.
Plastic lockers, by nature of their design and construction, ship assembled as individual frames. You only have to attach smaller parts like sloped tops, base footing and number plates.
Click on the Assembly Instructions tab on the left side to see steel and plastic locker instruction sheets. We are also working on a video that we can send to people to make assembly & installation even easier.
Can you install my lockers for me?
We can install your lockers, but only if you're close to our location. We can only install lockers for customers in the metro New York/New Jersey/Connecticut area. If you'd like a quote on installation, indicate so in the "Comments" box and please include your full address and phone number on the Quote form.
If you are a contractor or installer and would like to become part of our ever-growing network of locker installation partners, please Contact us.
Payment & Delivery
How soon can I receive my lockers?
Stock steel lockers typically arrive within 5-10 business days from the date you call us and place an order. Lockers are a very seasonal item, however. In the summer (when schools across the country want lockers installed) lead times can tend to extend by 3-7 business days. The shortest lead times typically occur from October to June.
Custom steel lockers and all Plastic lockers take 4-6 weeks to manufacture, plus 2-5 business days to ship, depending on your location.
How are freight charges handled?
Freight charges are added to the material cost. Using the total weight of the order and your zip code, we calculate a firm shipping price. We have distribution centers throughout the country, so freight charges are kept within very reasonable limits.
Do you ship outside the continental United States?
We routinely ship to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Canada. We also recently sent lockers to Bermuda and have, on occasion, shipped to other countries. If you're outside the United States, please put in your full shipping address on the Quote form, as we need very accurate delivery information to determine a complete overseas shipping price.
If you presently work with a freight forwarder, please put their information in the Quote form (along with a note in the "Comments" box) and we will quote shipping charges to that location. All export taxes, duties, customs and other overseas charges will be your responsibility at that point.
What payment options are available?
For orders less than $2,500, we request payment in full by credit card or check. For larger orders, we require a 50% deposit, with the remaining balance due upon shipment of the material. We also work with municipalities and government organizations utilizing purchase orders and government credit cards.
We are committed to doing everything we can to help make your locker project a reality.
